Siamese Cat Care
My siamese cat loves to lick and chew on plastic shopping bags. Any idea why?
Mind you, he doesn't bite off a piece of the plastic bag to chew on, so he's not in danger of swallowing it, but he just seems to enjoy licking then chewing on the edges of plastic shopping bags and Ziplock storage bags. (No, he doesn't care if it's a REAL Ziplock-brand baggie, but you get the idea.) It's not damaging anything, but it does seem a bit odd. Any clues?
My cat and my brother's cat also does this. I imagine he likes the feel of the plastic on his gums when he chews the bag. Shopping bags might be dangerous if he did accidently swallow some of the plastic, but ziplocs are sturdier so that's probably safe

Do all siamese cats drive their owners insane with meowing?
I have a friend that wants me to adopt a cat in dire need from her, but it is a siamese cat and I read online that they meow all day long. The siamese she wants to give me is a kitten, would I be able to raise it to be quiet? I spend alot of time at home so I think that I would get along with a cat that needs alot of social care, but if the cat is going to be making high pitch meowing all its life I don't know if I can handle that.
All Siamese are more vocal than other cats, but it varies by the individual cat. Some are incessantly chatty, others don't have as much to say. Some are LOUD, others have quiet voices. It varies. You cannot 'raise' a kitten to be quiet, it is part of their inherited personality that comes with them. You can't train their vocal nature out of them any more than you can train them not to breathe. A kitten also may or may not have found it's voice yet - a quiet kitten can grow up to be a very vocal cat. That vocal nature is one of the reasons why Siamese are the #2 breed surrendered to shelters.
