Where/how to get your dogs trained to be search and rescue dogs around the central texas area?

I have two extremely intelligent dogs that are so easy to train and very keen to. I think they would be good as research and rescue dogs simply because they've endless energy and can be extremely determined. They quickly discovered sit, lay, roll more than, dance, shake and so on. They're well behaved and mind as well. They are also fairly young, one is really a year old and also the other is about a yr along with a fifty percent to two years old. Exactly where or how would I go about getting them trained for research and rescue dogs within the central region?

Usually individuals train their own canines to be search and rescue dogs and then (the people) give a huge commitment of money and time to saving lives.

From what I've heard, it isn't a simple matter of having to pay somebody to coach your dog. You might be able to donate your dog to a sheriff's division or research and rescue organization, but if you want to keep your canine and do research and rescue, you'd most likely have to train it yourself.

That said, the best way is probably to join a local club. Here are some in Texas:

You might also want to contact your local sheriff's department. They may be able to help you out or tell you where to go for more information.

I used to want to do canine SAR. Then I read So Others May Live by Caroline Hebard. Really interesting book that really lets you know how much of a commitment, in terms of money, time and your life, it is to commit to search and rescue. If you're serious about this, I'd suggest you read it so you have an idea what you're getting into.

Where can I go for Canine Search and Rescue training in Connecticut?

I adopted a wonderful German Shepherd in November, and we are just finishing up obedience and a little bit of agility at the moment, but I can tell she's getting bored. I was thinking about training her in Schutzhund, but decided (being an EMT) that maybe K9 Search and Rescue would be a better bet for the two of us.
Now my only problem is finding somewhere that will help me train her... I have joined a local canine SAR volunteer organization, but they won't consider my dog until I've been volunteering for a year. She's already about 2 years old, and I'd like to get her started with tracking classes. I can't find anything in the area! (I found one down by New Haven, but that's too far, and there's a place in Winsted that wants to take her for 5 weeks and keep her in a kennel! Not suited for an abandoned rescue dog...)
Does anyone know a place in the area? I'd prefer it to be close, but I am willing to travel as far as NY for a good trainer.

Try to call Paws N Effect in Hamden. Ask for Kathy Shea, she may know where you can go. Or she may know who would know.
