Professional Pet Sitter
Your opinion on a pet-sitter's....?
On your pet-sitter's attire.
I work for a professional pet-sitting agency, and when reading various "how to pick a sitter" guides online, one thing I see often is to pick a sitter that comes dressed professionally in clothing that identifies them as a pet-sitter (ex. a polo with the company name embroidered on it). However, the company I work for encourages us to wear plain clothes not out of style or comfort, but because we realize that any potential deviant may see us walking your dog and think "Okay, so this is the time of day that they need a dog walk, this is the time of day they aren't home, this is the time of day that their house would be easiest to rob." Besides, I kinda doubt your dog is concerned if we're wearing jeans and a t-shirt.
So what is your opinion: should your pet-sitter come dressed professionally, or in plain clothes?
I'd go for plain clothes. Your company has some good points, but I also just think that if someone really looks comfy, they'll be more at ease and the dogs would sense that and be more at ease as well.

Pet Owners & Sitters: What is the line between tough/nec. love and going over the top to the detriment of pet?
I've been working with animals for over 40 years. Sometimes a combing out of a Persian cat is not totally fun for the cat--but I know the best tricks to make it easier. However we all know NOT doing it means it will only be worse in the long run. Pet Lovers know this is a familiar situation which is not singled out to Persian kitties. But, how does one decide when it becomes too traumatic vs. simply being Tough Love? I grew up showing horses and learned gentle care, but grooming is imperative for some breeds. Fortunately, my Rescue-Persians all love combing. Your professional thoughts would be appreciated. I don't want to cross that line, but good grooming is part of good love. Thank you.
If there are large matted areas (wider than your finger in any area, and/or unable to fit a comb underneath), I usually recommend shaving and starting from new rather than pulling them off, which can be very painful, especially if they are close to the skin, you can tear the skin. I don't recommend scissors because cat-skin is so delicate that you can cut it without realizing it.
If there aren't any mats, and you are just grooming for daily maintenance, try to keep grooming sessions to ten minutes or less to minimize the pulling.
Good luck.
