Will someone who owns a pet grooming shop...?

tell us how to remove the INTENSELY matted & knotted parts (most of his coat) from our long haired cat without the threat of accidentally pulling at or tearing his skin or tearing it off his skin? Is there a particularly useful professional tool or tools to use? Hopefully or maybe a noiseless tool? Brand name & type to use from a discount place or website? Can't afford for a pro to do the job right now. Desperate need to take care of this problem. Thanks so much. :o )

From the sounds of it, you will have to achieve the result that you are looking for. Unfortunately, not even shaving it will prevent pulling on the skin if the matts are that bad, which on long hair cats I see a lot.
I recommend that you NEVER use scissors on a cat that has "INTENSELY matted parts". With scissors you would have to pull the mat away from the skin, and then cut....doing this is going to stretch the skin thus bringing it up to the mat.
I don't understand why you can't afford to have a groomer do this. At my salon I would only charge you $10 to demat you cat by shaving only the mats.Of course that would not include a bath or anything, but that would include shaving the mats and making sure that the rest of your cat is fully brushed. If you did chose to go that route, you would have to be sure to brush your cat daily after having it done. If you do not brush daily, as the shaved parts come in, they will tangle together with the longer hairs very quickly.

My cat's been shedding like crazy. Would getting him groomed by professionals do any good?

We are looking for options about reducing his shedding. Im considering taking him to a professional groomer where they shampoo, condition, and brush him. They say that they use special tools to reduce shedding so much. Is it any good? Are there any other, better options?

Do you groom him at home? I'd start with some good brushings at home (it's cheaper), and see if that improves the situation.
