self employed pet sitter in need of CRB please help!?

I have recently started a pet sitting and dog walking business. I have all my insurances and bits in order. But am stuck at trying to get a CRB.

When having inital thoughts about this business i looked into competitors ect. I noticed a majority have CRB checks. Now i am looking to get one, i understand its hard for a self employed person to get one at the best of times, i contacted an umbrella body who said its fine to do a crb on a sole trading person. But being a pet sitter i dont need one, so they wont do one.

There are companys out there like NARPS who do CRB's for pet sitters but you have to be a member plus a fee for the CRB works out at over £100.

Is there anyone out there who can help please.

Thank you.

I work for the CRB. Pet sitters are not entitled to get CRB checks. Self employed persons/sole traders most certainly cannot apply for CRB checks and any Umbrella Body that processes checks for the self employed could be removed from the CRB's register. You should inform the CRB of the company that said they could do them for sole traders, as they could be putting children/vulnerable adults at serious risk.

I don't know who NARPS are but if they are doing CRB checks for pet sitters they are breaking the law (Police Act Part V, Data Protection Act, Human Rights Act - Article 8 (right to privacy)). The maximum penalty is £5000 fine and/or 6 months imprisonment.

You cannot get a CRB check. Don't waste £100 getting a check that is illegal and of no value.

What you can do, as a sole trader/self employed person, is get a Basic Disclosure from Disclosure Scotland (£20). These can be requested for any purpose - employment, immigration etc and are requested by the individual. They will do them for people in England & Wales too, as CRB don't have this service yet. Alternatively, you can get a Subject Access Report from your local police station (£10 - £20), these include any data about you on the Police National Computer. Just contact the Data Protection Officer at the Force HQ and ask to make a "subject access request".

What are the business requirements of a dog walker/pet sitter In Illinois?

What type business license, insurance, etc...

Good luck on your new business.

You should call your local city hall and ask what their requirements are since these can very from city to city.

But if you are serious you should get some liability insurance.

There a couple insurance providers you can get dog walker insurance from. PSA Insurance, Business Insurers of the Carolinas, and Mourer-Foster Inc. all offer policies.
