Should I switch jobs?

Need some input... 3 weeks ago I started a inventory clerk position full time with benefits at a Resort and spa, making $12/hour. Starting to get settled in (free uniform, employee ID, selected benefits, etc). Just today was offered an Inventory Manager position with a pet retailer making 13/hour with 5 hours overtime guaranteed, averaging out to be about $13.90/hour, again with full benefits. These positions are in south Florida, Broward county. Should I switch now to become a manager making slightly more, or stay with the current company as is or request a raise at the current job?
The working conditions at both locations are similar, though I work with older (35-50) co-workers that are friendly and the place is fun, whereas the pet retailer is much younger (18-30) and may or may not be as upbeat. I am 24. Just want some opinions on what others may do. Thanks!

Although hrgirl17 has some VERY Good points under normal Circumstance and higher pay offer... I would say go for it.
Retail is not normal.

Lets put a different spin on this.. REALITY CHECK...
Being an Inventory Manager of a Retail Store comes with a whole lot more responsibilities and headaches than is worth an average of $1.72 an hour more. < and taxes will eat that increase right up!> and you must work overtime to achieve that.

The Resort, may have other fringe benefits and advantages that you haven't considered yet.(like discount vacations at their sister Resorts).
_- At the Resort you will be working with a higher clientele of people (Network opportunities)
Although you will still be exposed to the public.
- People (guest/patrons) are generally happier when they are on vacation OR in an upscale atmosphere. so when you do encounter them they're generally nicer.
- The atmosphere is fun. (that counts for a whole lot!)
- You get paid for overtime (?) if required
- The employees are older, more mature and responsible. ( they don't call in sick as much to be with their boyfriends, girlfriends. Take unexpected time off to go to concerts / .. play in the sun, etc.. usually with more mature employees there is not as much drama in their life)
- The Resort sounds like there are many different avenues for opportunity to move up thru the ranks and learn more about your position and the Company.

Retail and Management
- Managers usually have to cover shifts when employees don't show up.
- Managers are responsible for everything that goes wrong.
(regardless of the reason)
- Managers are responsible for bottom line.
(regardless of the reason)
- Managers have to deal with Staff problems and unhappy customers.
- Managers also have to contend with Management above them, that are unhappy with the store performance or something that went wrong at store level. (due to someone Else besides you, dropping the ball).

I come from 35 years of Upper Management Corp level.
Both Retail and Manufacturing.
As a manager, I started young ( most of my employees were older than me, 35 - 55yrs. they actually taught me a lot, took good care and protected me from pitfalls. The younger employees were not as easy, until I became older.)
I have enjoyed my Career - I started at the bottom for the opportunity of the future..(low-low pay). Worked hard - learned what I needed to know - and advanced. I did well, and I was paid well.

But $13.00 an hour for Management responsibilities(o.k. $13.90 for 45 hr week) in retail, is not worth the money.
Learn what you need to learn about business in your current position, (a company that has a happy work enviroment is worth it's weight in gold).
Then - make the decision as to where you go from there.
You will have more experience and can command a better salary.
Ultimately the decision is up to you and where you place your priorities
Good Luck!!!

Pet Resort And Spa

resort/spa for group of 5?

my boss wants to take us somewhere in january and we cant decide where to go... were leaning towards a spa/resort type place but nothing that is SUPER SUPER expensive.
any suggestions for places to go that is about 3-4 hours outside of Houston?

were wanting some kind of girls only getway packages BUT with things to do other than sit and watch chic flicks... maybe some massages, hiking, crafts, petting zoo or SOMETHING else of that sort.

any ideas will be welcomed!
