More raccoons and Spike my cat!
Spike is a second-hand cat. When I arrived in human society as an adoption program an animal, his name was Lonnie. I could not in good conscience continue to use the name of a cat, so I renamed Spike. I know it seems most appropriate for dogs, but I think Spike has always appreciated the new handle.
As cats go, Spike is a good example of the species. Sleeps most of the day in a warm place in the top of the bed or table on the veranda, where the sun rises. He hunts squirrels in the front yard when the mood and makes you think waiting in the back of any squirrel might be crazy enough to cross his path.
Custody at home when I left and he keeps the garage free of vermin in the night. Well, this might be an exaggeration. Say that there must be a quota for number of raccoons that at some point in my garage.
It is a bit crowded there when there are more than four at a time havoc in my garage, then stoically observes the situation from his perch on top of the old refrigerator. Learned his lesson for getting involved into chaos when a large raccoon almost bit his leg.
Spike is a cat indoor / outdoor. When the weather is cold that comes around the rear door glass sliding, meowing pitifully which is freezing. He must have had acting lessons somewhere before coming to us.
A few days ago, were cousins Spike came to visit, the destruction of my garage in the process. I'm not sure the raccoons are in the winter if hibernation or anything, but is rare to see my garage during this time of year.
If staying for a short period of time and go, I would not mind hanging in the garage from time to time. Unfortunately, managing to destroy everything in its path in its insatiable quest for food. The first thing to go is the flat cat food Spike. If there is no food left in the container, they fight each other so often wears the bowl in the garage as if it was a stuffed dog.
Spike watches the scene from the box on the bench. I threw around the outside of the garage and looked out the window and stared silently observing the chaotic scene unfolding before him.
It's like a scene from "Gremlins" where all these small beings are alone in the kitchen and start breaking everything in a few small parts. Growling, hissing and biting, gnashing of teeth because it tries open containers that might contain food, the raccoons have even touched a painting of his platform can. I paw prints all over my garage through the flap and the sidewalk.
Last year, as a last resort, he hired a guy who proudly displays the name of his company in his truck "Critters Gone Be." Unfortunately, when he was a great brand, which was not much better than removing the raccoon. After three weeks, he made his traps and went, complaining that if my cat had been kept locked up and out of their cages, which could have caught the animal has been given to fishing!
In defense of Spike, the smell of cat food cheap canned was used bait was very tempting. It is difficult to keep out of the cage when you know the gastronomic paradise is only a few feet away, hidden deep in a metal cage.
Last night, for the first time I had a good overview of one of raccoons that tore my garage. Was more coon I saw in my garage. I opened the door and stared at me with one foot in the bucket containing five gallons of food skewered cat. After completing a handful of Meow Mix in the mouth, ran to the door for pets and left.
For several years I had a raccoon problem in the spring and summer when families they invade my garage. Now it seems that if I'll be lucky to have Winter version "Animal Capers."
