Question about pet friendly hotels?

Do you have to keep the pet in a kennel? If you leave the room for a short time do you have to take your pet with you or do they allow you to leave it in the room unattended and not in a kennel? Ive never traveled with a pet and was wondering. Ive seen dogs and cats at hotels before. What are the rules?

No, I don't think they require the animal to be kenneled, but I would recommend it. What if the hoursekeeper opens the door and your dog darts out of the room? Or the dog bites the housekeeper? I always kennel my dog, better safe than sorry...she wouldn't bite anyone, but she would dart out the door. Also, even though my dog was kenneled the housekeeper did not come in the room, she was barking a lot and the housekeeper was intimidated by her. That's okay, just ask for extra towels if your dog will be in the room all day.
