Electric Dog Training Collars
What electric collar should i use or how do I train my dog to stay by me?
I have an almost one year old lab/ pit mix that's 55 pounds and very strong and excitable. If she see's someone or thing new then she'll always try to run up and see it or them.
She won't respond to my 'come' command and i can't seem to knock her attention away from something especially if she's off leash. I'm afraid she'll run away.
I either need an alternative to training, advice from someone who's had this problem, or I need to get a remote shock collar.
If i were to get the collar, what kind and type should i get for a good price? (preferably 150$ tops) but will still be strong enough to restrain her since she's so strong herself
by the way I'm aware that training takes time. I've taught her everything else in obedience as well of a pretty good deal of tricks. She'll come when called inside but only with treats and outside she won't at all, that's the problem. She'll go after everything she sees
The behavior you are describing sounds pretty typical for a puppy of her age, and you have allowed your pup to go off-leash too soon. She should not have been off leash until she had a solid recall and then only in a fenced area where she can't run away so you could test her recall.
You need an alternative to training??? What on earth does that mean?
I'm a huge fan of electric collars in the right hands. I put one on my dog every time she is going to be off leash and sometimes just to keep her guessing (or not paying attention to the collar being on or off). But you do not sound ready to learn how to properly train a dog.
Slapping an electric collar on your dog is not going to magically make your dog obedient. You've got a lot of training to do before you are even ready to go to that level of off leash obedience training with your dog.
