First off congrats!! It is a great way to make a small income and lose weight. As a dog walker you are still liable to pay all taxes and national insurances (or Medicaid) as a normal worker, but under the title of Self Employed. I keep a daily diary of everything. Appointments, addresses dates and when I do walk dogs the amount of time spent ( I use a stop watch) and how much was collected. This way you have valid proof of what you have done. I also leave a small card that was easily printed up on the pc with my business name somewhere the owner will see so they know I was there and their dog was really walked. You will need to keep all records for tax and insurance purposes.
Invest in some poop bags, comfy all weather shoes and a little advertising and off you go. We paid to have a leaflet printed (receipts kept for everything for proof of all expenditures) and went door to door plus leaving in local corner shops. Within the first week I had 15 dogs!!
