dog training collars??

I have two dogs, a chi-pom and a pom, the chi-pom gets really jealous and upset when we don't pay attn to her and she has recently started biting the corners of the wall, at first we didn't notice but now its getting out of control. Because my pom sees her doing it, he now does it too. Just today I found that they have started biting and scratching a hole in the wall. They are both under 6 lbs. and I want to use a training shock collar on them so that they will stop. Any other suggestions???

yes don't use a shock collar on them. they are too small. get off your butt and tell them no. say it in a firm but not angry or yelling tone. then make them sit. this is poor behavoir in general and shocking them to stop at the wall might stop that but it won't stop what is causing the behavoir. you need to let them know you are in charge, but your actions, not you just pushing a button. take them to a training class and this will help you bond with them and give them confidence (which will help with the jealousy) and teach them you are to be respected and listened to. the trainer will be able to help you with the wall chewing. if you just noticed the hole in the wall the shock collar won't work anyway because you don't see them doing it. get a crate for them when you can't directly observe them, just don't leave them in it all the time. this will keep them from destroying things when you are gone. usually behavoir like this is because the dogs aren't getting enough exercise. take them on walks at least twice a day. a well exercised dog won't have the energy to tear a hole in the wall. which is quite a feat for a 6lb dog. be consistant, and firm. what is the consequence for bad behavior today is the same all the time. consistancy will get your further than any shock collar. find a training class that fits yours and your dog's needs and stick with it. good luck.

Is using a shock collar to train your dog mean and cruel?

I am wondering because I just got a new dog today and my parents are thinking about using one on her because she barks alot.

Read the box, it says "watch for signs of psychosis"

There are so many reasons and solutions for problematic barking, the best solution is to spend that money on a behaviorist (not neccessarily a trainer) to show you a humane method.

Is the dog getting enough excercise/training?
The dog may need a job, excessive barking/digging/destructive chewing is often a symptom of boredom
Is the dog getting enough time with the humans?
What is stimulating the dog to bark? Can you remove the dog from the stimulus? ie, sometimes something as simple as closing the blinds...lol
Is the dog nervous? If you put a shock collar on a nervous or shy dog, you are definitely going to damage the dog.
What breed is the dog, terrior? Hunting dog? Is it an inherited drive to bark?

You need to answer alot of questions before you decide ona solution. Just like anything else in life, the real answer takes work. Having the dog only one day is sooo fast to traumatize it with a shock collar.
