Dog Training Manual
am I really that uncomon?
Okay I have been Visually impaired my whole life but lost the better part of my vision a little over a year ago. I use a white cane and eco location to get around. my situation was further complicated when I woke up and my right leg was paralysed. I can still walk(drag) short distances, but I use crutches or a power/manual wheelchair to get around my university. I am completely independent. I am training my own service dog, as a guide dog school wouldn't give me one. I was kicked out of U.S paralympics dispite winning 13 medals at 5 international competitions over 3 years.because I was "too disabled"... I was discrimated by the first university I ws going to attend because the office of disablity services had "safety concerns" and I'm getting sick and tired of being stared at. I have dealt with all this my whole life, but really now its at a whole new level. is it really that uncomon for a blind person to be in a wheelchair? or is it that i'm so independent? idk its just frustrating
I think it may not be very common for blind wheelchair users to be as independent and active as you are. I'm sure it's not that rare to be both blind and use a wheelchair, but I think few people with that combination of disabilities are as independent as you. Therefore many people, even those whose job is to handle disability related affairs, may not be used to dealing with situations like yours. A lot of people and organizations are used to providing accommodations for disabilities that occur one at a time, but don't seem to know what to do when someone has a combination of two or more different disabilities.
I can imagine how tirening and frustrating it is to have to deal with various obstacles and attitudes that stem from that, but I think it's great that you're doing it anyway and not letting anything stop you from being independent and doing everything you want to do.

What's a good dog-training manual?
I am meant to be using one for an assignment at college where we adapt their methods to our own animal, but I can only seem to find either Caeser Milan's books or Victoria Stilwell's books... What other good training books are out there which aren't too basic?
