Hotels - Travels With Fido: Taking your Dog on Holiday
We are a nation of animal lovers, and like to think that our pets are part of our families.
For some it can be heartbreaking to have to leave their dogs in kennels when they go away on holiday.
However, there is hope for Fido and friends, as more and more accommodations around the country are becoming pet friendly. And for some holidaymakers, a large grassy area they can walk their dog on can be a more important factor than which movies are available in the hotel room.
There is no shortage of pet-friendly accommodations now available. Hotels and other accommodations are now going the extra mile to cater for pets and their owners.
Most hotels and holiday homes will now accept pets that travel with their owners; offering walking services as well as outside hoses for cleaning muddy paws, and also a basket for your pet to relax after a long walk. Some hotels may charge a small fee to cover any food and cleaning costs.
Hotels in countryside areas seem to be amongst the most popular. The picturesque surroundings and miles of countryside offer dog owners the opportunity to enjoy the scenery and get some exercise when walking their dogs, before returning to relax in warm and cosy surroundings.
In America there are a range of specialist ‘doggy day camps’ where owners can enjoy some relaxation, safe in the knowledge that their canine companions are frolicking in acres of open countryside, whilst still being under the watchful eye of trained minders.
Stays range from just a day to a few weeks, and owners can even have photographs of their dog enjoying their holiday sent to them by the staff.
If you are looking to take your pet on holiday, it’s always best to double check with your hotel or holiday cottages to find out their policies on bringing pets. If you are looking to travel to destinations that are family-orientated, it’s important to check their policy on pets, some resorts and hotels are cautious when it comes to pets and the safety of small children.

Which dog breed should I get?
We're planning of getting a dog in the Summer holidays. However, when term starts again in September the dog will be left alone from 7.30 to 4.30 and its not possible to get 2 dogs.
we'd really like a puppy because dogs from shelters dont have a reliable temperament.
will 8 weeks be long enough to train a puppy to be comfortable alone? if so, are there any recommened breeds?
someone would come at lunch to let the dog out.
Labrador retrievers are one of the best dogs you can get I have done research on this before they are independent, trainable, good with kids and people loyal etc....
