What can I expect from a live in housekeeper?

I live in the DC area and am looking to room and board a tenant in exchange for household help such as grocery shopping, cleaning, laundry, dog sitting/house sitting during travel.
I don't want to enter into an agreement with someone and have one or both of us dissatisfied with the arrangement.
I was hoping someone could share their opinions on what each of us can expect. She is more than welcome (and expected) to have a regular job outside of the house. Room and board in my area is about 1,000 dollars a month with utilities, phone and computer access included.
