Dog owners: What do you expect from a boarding kennels?

In terms of:
-fees,
-the qualifications and experience of the person running it,
-the actual kennel design,
-indoor or outdoor kennels, -
-do you provide food or does the kennels, -
-hygiene, -
-vaccinations
-exercise, how much and what type?
-Policy on mixing dogs
-Personal attention to dogs
-Extra services, grooming, collection and return etc.

Also could you tell me how you found out how you found the kennels you use? Do you visit the kennels beforehand and leave your pooch for a trial period? What do you ask the kennel staff and what do you expect them to ask you? What really impresses you in a kennel and what would you not like/expect to see?

If anyone has had any interesting kenneling stories please share them.
Im starting a kennels and want to get them set up perfect!!!

Thanks very much!!

If you MUST board find a no-cage facility!!!

-fees:
depends on the quality of the kennel. some range from $30-$50 a night, depends also on the amount of time you're gone. Some have discounts if you leave for more than 3 days and will have discounts if you have more than one dog.

-the qualifications and experience of the person running it:
As long as the person has the animals best interest at heart and is there: much better.

-the actual kennel design:
open...no person wants to be cramped, neither does a dog. cage-free is BEST. You should only have crates for the night and feeding (since some dogs are food-aggressive) and incase any dog starts misbehaving, he can have some time to settle.

-indoor or outdoor kennels:
I prefer indoor for climate control...if you live in an area that gets too hot or cold, it's not good for your animal.

-do you provide food or does the kennels:
Kennels should provide food, but it's best to bring your own. mixing a dogs diet isn't very good. As long as you give them the appropriate amount of food, and feeding instructions, they will do whatever you like, otherwise they give the dogs whatever brand they carry. All places should administer meds, no extra fee!

-hygiene:
whether crated or not, the mess should be cleaned as soon as it's found.

-vaccinations:
They should require ALL dogs to have recent vet bills confirmed before boarding.

-exercise:
If crated, at LEAST 3 walks a day, not just to eliminate. If cage-free, that will be their exercise.

-Policy on mixing dogs:
Dogs should be categorized by size: small, medium, and large.

-Personal attention to dogs:
If crated, dogs should have play time when they are walked, if cage-free, a handler will be in the area with them at ALL times. If not crated, no toys should be given to prevent fights. Allow the owner to bring blankets for bed time.

-Extra services, grooming, collection and return etc.:
Some may have grooming. If it's a seperate facility I would like it better, since they'd be under less stress. also, grooming charges will not be included in the boarding fee.

You should give your clients a FULL tour of your facility beforehand and have an evaluation of the dog/dogs (should be a 10-15minute trial). You should work at one for a little while to learn the ropes. I would not want to see a mess and I would prefer to have a 24-7 one. In case anything happens, you need to be able to take care of the situation. A lot of dogs fear noise, so if it's raining/storming/fireworks, anything ... you need to be available. Also, make sure you carry insurance, if anything happens to the dog under your care, you WILL be held liable. if indoor, use rubber or linoleum flooring. easy to clean and soft on the dogs feet.

How to stop a 4year old from buying dogs on Nintendo DS?

My 4year sister is driving me nuts

Don't ask me how she worked out how to put them in kennels, and how to buy them and she even worked out how to change the interior on Nintendodogs.

She brought a Shetland Sheepdog . I ended up notice it, and named it Blaze. Gosh the dog she picked is cute.

She struck again and brought a German Shepherd puppy. Still yet to decided a name for her.

Any tips on how to stop her from buying them and stop her from changing the interia design of the kennels?

By the way I haven't taught her! I only taught her how to feed the dogs.

sell the ds...lol, i tought u shuld put it at gaming section
