Dog Boarding, and how they respond...What should I do?

I am going out of the country for 1 month and I can't take my 1 year old dog. I live in the high desert and I'm not to sure of any places that would keep her for a month and take good care of her. Could anyone help me out? Also, how would a dog respond to being left for that long and how would they react to me when I get home? I'm worried she will somewhat forget me and our normal home routine. Thanks

Check with your local Veterinary Surgeon for any kennels he would recommend then do some homework of your own. Go to the Kennels and get the feel of the place , see how the staff look after dogs in there care . You can normally tell by how clean the place is and the attitude of the staff . A good establishment will go through with you how your dog is kept at home and will try to accomodate any special routines you have with your dog . Its best to pay that bit extra for the piece of mind you will get , yes he will pine but if he is kept happy he will probably be fine . You dog will not forget you and will be overjoyed on your return.

The dog just got home from 4 days at the kennel. Why is he peeing on the floor?

We boarded our dog for 4 days at a kennel while we were out of town. He is house trained and rarely pees on the floor. A few hours after we got home, he peed on the floor twice. He had just been let out so its not like it was an emergency. Can someone explain why this may have happened. This is not his first time at a kennel, but it was his first time at this particular facility.

There was something very stressful to him about his stay.
I'd use the other kennel or, better yet, see about having someone take care of your dog at home next time.

If it continues, take him to the vet. If he was holding his urine for long periods he may have developed a bladder infection.
