Vacationing with dog in Ontario? Where to stay? Cottages?

We would like to take a vacation within a 4-5 hour drive from Toronto. We were originally thinking of staying at a hotel, but found that it was cheaper to rent a cottage. It is just my mom, my dog, and I so we don't need a large place. Our basic requirements are a clean, pet friendly cottage for about $1000 per week or less. We will be going the week after labour day so most places are not charging their high season rates.

I've been looking at some websites, but would like the opinions of anyone that travels through the area. Thanks.
Oh and we don't care where we go. We aren't into any tourist attractions, just looking to get away.

I like to go up around the Peterborugh area and stay at Elim Lodge on Pigeon Lake. They price is right, and its a nice little lake if you like to go fishing. Its about 2 to 2-1/2 hours out of the city
